I hate the city, even my smallish one. I can not breathe here. This book includes so many survival strategies, good ones, that really open up a pocket of peace, I could not begin to describe them. Jan 14, Lee rated it did not like it. If you have no experience with mindfulness or meditation, this book might be useful for you. However, if you're at all familiar with the concept of cultivating mindfulness, this book is just repeating old ideas and strategies but applying them to urban circumstances. I found it repetitive and unhelpful. Better to learn about the overall idea of mindfulness than to read trite ways to practice it in certain settings. I often still find difficulties with city life and it was great to have a kind-of guide on how to mindfully convert from rural life. I love how this is not a book to read from page 1 to page , but how it is sectioned off. I feel as though "Urban Mindfulness" will be best suited to stay at my workplace, in my office drawer - as that is where I feel less peaceful and most stressed. It isn't a big book, which is great to take with you during commutes, but I felt that it could have been more detailed on how to become for cognitive during more trying times.

Though, I suppose there are psychological books of therapy methods out there for that. Mar 01, Josh rated it it was ok Recommends it for: idk? Not a huge fan of the whole 'mindfulness' thing. It just seems too hokey to me along with other well-accepted techniques like CBT, and I say that as a psych major that understands the amount of research to back up those practices , and despite trying to find a way to buy into it and keep reading books on the topic, it just doesn't get me sprung.

Jun 28, Karen rated it liked it. This was a quick read, and it didn't get into a lot of substance about the philosophy of meditation. I took it as just a little reminder to calm down and relax during the hectic urban life. Some tips were useful, but nothing caused earth-shattering revelations.
